TOPOS collaborated with heritage architecture firm Design 5 on the landscape design for the restoration of the Old Bega Hospital site. The approach drew on the layered history of the place—responding to colonial-era planting traditions while acknowledging the broader, open-ended landscape use by local Indigenous communities.

The design contrasted era-specific planting around the building with perimeter native planting to support native ecology of the area. Vistas from the site frame the surrounding hills, preserving borrowed views and a sense of openness. The planting scheme considered the harsh conditions of the area – specified species needed to withstand frost, drought, and the site’s extreme seasonal variation. A tree-lined avenue connected the road to the main building, welcoming visitors to the site.
